The situation in Nakhchivan is does not change

Discussions around the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and its leadership do not subside. The news about the arrests coming from Nakhchivan does not allow the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis Vasif Talibov and his inner circle to leave the agenda. There were reports in the media about the abolition of Talibov's tacit immunity. After that, many people who had been silent for years began to speak. After the news that Vasif Talibov arrived in Baku and for unknown reasons could not return to Nakhchivan, these discussions intensified even more. Much is spoken about   dismissal of Vasif Talibov from the chairmanship and even his punishment.

According to the media, discussions were also held in the upper echelons of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party around the person of Vasif Talibov. They write that some persons represented in the leadership of the ruling party demanded his expulsion from the organization.

It should be reminded that V. Talibov is the chair of the Nakhchivan organization of the New Azerbaijan Party, as well as a member of the Board of the party. And reports that just recently he was not allowed to attend an event in Baku on the 30th anniversary of the creation of the party, only confirm this opinion. According to media reports, preparations are underway for the removal of Vasif Talibov from the actual control of Nakhchivan.

There were reports that he allegedly sold his personal jet, and then he was forbidden to leave the country and was not even allowed into the NAR.

And most importantly, in recent days, some media have begun to present the downing of a Russian helicopter in the direction of Sadarak, the day before the end of the Second Karabakh War, as a provocation by Vasif Talibov. There are those who write that for this reason the country's authorities were forced to agree to the deployment of Russian peacekeepers in Azerbaijan.

Everything that the media writes. But obviously, some processes are going on in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. These processes are under the control of the Azerbaijani authorities. But how do the people of Nakhchivan react to what is happening?

Hakimeldostu Mehdiyev, who lives in Nakhchivan, answers ASTNA questions.

* * *

Question: What is the current situation in Nakhchivan? Are the processes ongoing?

Answer: The situation in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is developing in the same way as in the first days. That is, in some departments there are interrogations. This time, the chief physician of the Nakhchivan Central Hospital and his deputies participated in the investigation.

Question: How do the people of Nakhchivan react to what is happening?

Answer: The attitude of the people of Nakhchivan to this issue is ambiguous. There are those who believe that everything will be fixed and those who do not. This is what people think based on their personal experience. I do not think there will be positive results. Because here everything is still going on. There are no changes.

Question: What are people's expectations of what is happening?

Answer: Residents of Nakhchivan are watching with interest what is happening, some believe that if the leadership changes, things will get better. The interrogation of two or three ministers, the chair of the committee, the chief doctor of the hospital does not give the people of Nakhchivan any hope for positive changes. People do not have any expectations. However, there are many more people who think that the situation will improve than those who do not hope for anything. There are those who read that everything will be the same. That one will leave, this one will come, but it will be even worse.

Question: In your opinion, what is happening will lead to any positive changes?

Answer: I do not think so. Because it is not serious to think that something will change for the better until cardinal changes take place in the country.

Question: Why did these processes take place right now? Lawlessness, corruption, embezzlement have existed for many years, and although there have been plenty of such facts, they have always ignored them. So why are these processes now suddenly given a start? What do people think about it? What are the versions?

Answer: Vasif Talibov has been leading Nakhchivan for 30 years. So far, he has not been put in any trouble. On the contrary, the leadership of Nakhchivan was constantly rewarded. I believe that the reason for the beginning of the processes right now, after 30 years, is the struggle for the redistribution of spheres of influence between the clans. That is, there was a conflict of interest in connection with the distribution of income.

Question: What steps should be taken to change the situation in Nakhchivan for the better?

Answer: Few believe that the situation will improve. Because the introduction of artificial bans at customs in the shortest possible time led to the fact that their faith was gone. For people to believe, help is required in creating the simplest conditions. For the situation to change for the better, laws must change. The rights of the people must be restored.
