Permission obtained to build Albanian section of trans-Adriatic pipeline

The consortium to develop the trans-Adriatic pipeline (TAP) has obtained the permission to build the Albanian section of the gas pipeline, reads the TAP statement released on April 8, 2014.

The permission has been issued by the Albanian National Territorial Council headed by Premier Eddy Rama.

“This is one of the most important permissions issued to TAP by the Albanian authorities. The permission will allow the consortium beginning construction in Albania,” reported TAP.

According to the same statement, construction will begin in Albania in 2015 from upgrade and construction of roads and bridges. Then it is planned to lay the pipeline and build other objects related to the gas transportation infrastructure.

TAP has been selected by the Shah-Deniz consortium as the route to transport gas from the Azerbaijani Shah-Deniz field to the European markets.

TAP will be used to transport gas from the Caspian Sea region to the south of Italy and then to the Western Europe through Greece, Albania and Adriatic Sea.

The initial capacity of TAP will total 10 billion cub.m. a year with the possibility of expansion up to 20 billion cub.m. a year.

TAP shareholders are BP (20%), SOCAR (20%), Statoil (20%), Fluxys (16%), Total (10%), E.ON (9%) and Axpo (5%).—0--
