Reduces the volume of transit cargo
The TRACECA transport corridor loses its "silky" character and appearance. In the first quarter of this year, freight transport on Silk Road on the Azerbaijani territory decreased by 28.2%.
According to the State Statistics Committee, as of April 1 this year in the Azerbaijan section of the Trans-Asian transport corridor Europe - Caucasus 3.1 million tons of cargo was transported. Of these, 1,144,700 tons accounted for the railroad, and the remaining 1,962,800 tons of cargo was transported by sea.
Reducing traffic affected the financial income of CJSC Azerbaijani Railways (AzR) and Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company. During the first quarter of this year from the transit they earned 151.2 million manat, which is 34.4% less than last year .
In AzR they could not give reasons for the trend of reducing the volume of traffic on the east-west corridor, citing the fact that they are the only link. -08D-

Azerbaijan's financial standing continues to strengthen as the country's foreign currency reserves have surged to $71 billion as of January 1, 2025, according to the Ministry of Finance. This figure, which includes reserves held by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) and the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), far exceeds the nation's external debt, which stands at a fraction of its reserves, specifically nearly 14 times less. This robust reserve position reflects Azerbaijan's fiscal stability and the government’s strategic economic management.
