26th Anniversary of Occupation of Gubadli
Baku / 08/31/19 / Turan: 26 years ago - on August 31, 1993, the armed forces of Armenia occupied the Gubadli region of Azerbaijan.
The territory of the district is 802 square kilometers, and its population is 30 thousand people. During the defense of the area, 283 soldiers were killed.
Currently, refugees from Gubadli live in various settlements of Azerbaijan.
"Armenia, grossly violating the Geneva Convention, continues to change its geographical names and loots the region, illegally populating it with people of Armenian ethnicity," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on the occasion of the anniversary of the occupation.
In UN Security Council resolutions 874 and 884, the fact of the occupation of Azerbaijan"s territories by Armenia was sharply condemned. -02D-

On January 15, the Tbilisi Court of Appeals rejected the appeal of Afghan Sadigov, the founder of the Azel TV website, who had protested his extradition to Azerbaijan. Sadigov’s wife, Sevinj Sadigova, stated that this was the final judicial instance in Georgia making a decision on the case, Turan reported. On the other hand, lawyer Mariam Kvelashvili informed Turan that the defense would continue legal steps to prevent the extradition of Afghan Sadigov. On January 15, the Yasamal District Court rejected the motion to change the detention measure for Azer Gasymly, the director of the Institute of Political Management, his lawyer, Agyl Laidj, to Turan. "Azer Gasymly stated during the trial that the charges against him were fabricated and related to his socio-political activities," the lawyer said. An appeal will be filed against the court's decision.
