Baku/06.10.22/Turan: Azerbaijan is for strengthening trade and economic cooperation between the Caspian countries, Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov said on Thursday at the plenary session of the Second Caspian Economic Forum in Moscow. Over 8 months of 2022, Azerbaijan's trade turnover with the Caspian states increased by 45% compared to last year, he said.
Asadov pointed to Azerbaijan's significant contribution to the implementation and development of the East-West and North-South international transport corridors that pass through the Caspian Sea.
Over eight months of this year, transit cargo transportation through Azerbaijan along the East-West corridor increased by 20%, and through the North-South - by 33%.
Azerbaijan is working to increase the transshipment capacity of the Baku International Trade Port from 15 to 25 million tons of cargo per year.
On September 9, Baku hosted the first trilateral meeting between Azerbaijan, Russia and Iran along the North-South corridor. The parties expressed their readiness to work on bringing the level of transit along the North-South corridor to 15 million tons per year by 2030.
Asadov invited neighboring countries to use the capabilities of Azerbaijan's civilian cargo fleet. In addition, the Caspian countries can take advantage of the capabilities of the Baku Shipbuilding Plant. ---06B----
