Azerbaijanis from Iran Protest Against Rouhani
South (Iranian) Azerbaijanis, living in America protested in New York in front of the UN headquarters against Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s visit to the USA, reads a message from the Facebook page of the National Awakening Movement of Southern Azerbaijan (NAMSA).
Activists and organizations of national resistance participated in the action. The picketers chanted: "Independence to South Azerbaijan," "End the ban on education in Turkic language," "Not only Persians live in Iran," and others.—03D06--

Afgan Sadygov, head of 'Azel.TV' website, arrested in Georgia with the purpose of extradition to Azerbaijan, has gone on a dry hunger strike since 2 February. This was reported to Turan by his wife Sevinj Sadygova after a telephone conversation with her husband on 2 February.

Although the health condition of human rights defender Anar Mammadli, who is being held in Baku pre-trial detention centre-1, has further deteriorated, he is not receiving adequate medical care. Owing to the regular closure of airspace over Astrakhan, state airline AZAL suspends all flights on the Baku-Astrakhan-Baku route for an indefinite period for flight safety. This was announced by Azerbaijan's state airline AZAL on 3 February.

The State Security Service (SSS) and the Interior Ministry of Azerbaijan (IMA) have reported the liquidation of a radical extremist group in Gusar region. It is reported that 8 members of the group were killed while offering armed resistance, and 6 were arrested.
