Baku proposes to increase the number of Azerbaijani citizens working in the UN system
Baku/06.07.23/Turan: Within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement, Azerbaijan has taken the initiative to create a Group of like-minded countries affected by mines. This was announced today by President Ilham Aliyev, receiving the Director General of the UN office in Geneva Tatiana Valovaya. The guest stressed the successful development of cooperation between the Geneva Office of the UN specialized organizations in Geneva and Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan, as the chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement, always attaches great importance to the institutionalization of the organization and multilateralism, in turn, Aliyev noted. At the same time, Azerbaijan has initiated a number of steps to institutionalize the Non-Accession Movement, and in particular the creation of a Parliamentary Network and a Youth organization. Azerbaijan has also taken the initiative to create a women's platform within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement.
Noting that Azerbaijan has faced the problem of mine contamination of the lands liberated from the Armenian occupation, the Head of state stressed the importance of consolidating the issue of mine clearance as a UN Sustainable Development Goal.
Within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement, Azerbaijan has taken the initiative to create a Group of like-minded countries affected by mines.
Valovaya, highly appreciating Azerbaijan's support in the development of the UN Sustainable Development Goal initiative, noted that President Aliyev's proposal to create a new Sustainable Development Goal for mine clearance is very valuable and important.
The meeting also discussed the importance of increasing the number of Azerbaijani citizens working in the UN system in accordance with existing quotas. ---06B--
