Baku/24.05.23/Turan: At a meeting in Washington in early May between Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia, the sides made several proposals to resolve the most contentious issues, including the mutual withdrawal of forces at the border, a dispute resolution mechanism in a future peace agreement, the rights and security of ethnic Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Dereck Hogan, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs U.S. Department of State, said this on May 23 answering a question from Congresswoman Madeleine Dean at the House Foreign Affairs Committee

The congresswoman said she had met the day before with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Elnur Mammadov, and discussed the situation in the conflict area.  She also asked a question about measures to "de-block" the Lachin corridor, to which Hogan responded that in a meeting with the Foreign Ministers, Secretary Blinken insisted on opening the Lachin corridor to commercial and private traffic.

"We have put forward a number of proposals and formulations that may enable the parties to overcome their differences. They will continue discussions on 1 June in Kishinev with the French President, the German Chancellor and the President of the European Council. We are coordinating with the EU, and the focus in Kishinev will be on how to finalise this; however, it is a long way to go," Hogan said. -02B-
