"Eastern Partnership" (EaP ) is a program of open cooperation between the EU and six countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan , Belarus, Georgia , Moldova and Ukraine. The program does not provide for EU membership, but involves political and economic rapprochement. Implementation of the EP program involves cooperation with partner countries on the basis of four thematic platforms: for democracy, for economic integration and convergence with EU policies, energy security, and relations between people. Participants in the program Eastern Partnership note that this initiative “is not anti-Russian”.
The summit of Eastern Partnership, 28-29 November 2013 took place in Vilnius on the background of the unexpected decision by Kiev not to sign the Ukraine Association Agreement with the EU. Then mass demonstrations began on the Maidan, which led to large-scale political and economic crisis in Ukraine. -02D-
