In Purchasing Weapons Azerbaijan Is Twenty Times Ahead of Armenia
SIPRI Stockholm International Peace Institute published the annual report on armaments. The study International Trends in the Supply of Arms -2016 says Azerbaijan has purchased more weapons than usual.
Among the clients of the 40 largest arms manufacturers, Azerbaijan took the 21st place. Compared with Armenia, Azerbaijan purchases much more arms.
Thus, in the years 2012-2016 the import of weapons to Azerbaijan was 75% higher than the volume of purchases in 2007-2011. At the same time, Azerbaijan purchased weapons 20 times more than Armenia, the report said.
Azerbaijan buys tanks, armored vehicles, air defense systems against ballistic missiles, and combat aircraft. Armenia acquires missiles of a 280-km range.
As noted by SIPRI, the main supplier of arms to Armenia and Azerbaijan is Russia.
In 2012-2016 Azerbaijan and Venezuela bought 4-5% of Russian-made weapons.
Azerbaijan bought 13% of the Israeli arms exports and 11% of the Belarusian arms exports.
In 2012-2016 Azerbaijan imported 3.6% of weapons from Belarus, 22% from Israel, and 69% - from Russia.
In the world market of armaments US supplied 1/3, and Russia supplied 23%.
In 2012-2016 US increased arms sales by 21%, and almost half of the military products were delivered to the Middle East. -16D / 06-
