Iran closed the border crossing points with Azerbaijan
On November 8, the Iranian side has closed all border crossing points on the border with Azerbaijan. The reasons for this are unknown. According to the regional correspondent of Turan, November 6 at the section of the border with Iran in Nakhchivan there was an incident: the Iranian side opened fire on a tractor working on the Azerbaijani side of the Araz River.
Azerbaijan sent an inquiry about the cause of the fire, after which the checkpoints were closed. There is still no response to the request.
Currently, a large number of citizens of Azerbaijan are waiting for the opening of checkpoints on the border of Iran t get permission to travel to Iran.
The Azerbaijani side can not answer the question when the border will be opened.
Official Baku has not commented on closure of the border, while in an informal conversation the Customs spokesman acknowledged that Iran closed the border without explanation.
In turn, the Iranian embassy in Baku confirmed the closure of the border. The Iranian side explained this with the border closure by Azerbaijan at the checkpoint Shahtakhti (Nakhchivan). However, as the correspondent of Turan reported from Nakhchivan, the checkpoint Shahtakhti is open from the Azerbaijani side. "Buses with passengers from Azerbaijan drove there, but were stopped on the Iranian side," said the reporter.
Note that on the border of the two countries, there are 5 checkpoints - two in Nakhchivan and three in the south of Azerbaijan.
Every day, thousands of people on either side use these transitions. -05B-
