Meeting of Caspian states opens in Ashgabat
The second meeting of authorized representatives of the Caspian states, which will continue to develop the legal framework of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Caspian states, began on September 26 in the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan. In particular, the parties will discuss the draft agreement on cooperation in the field of prevention of emergency situations of natural and anthropogenic disasters and the elimination of their consequences on the Caspian Sea.
The meeting participants noted that the urgency of environmental protection measures in the light of the pace and direction of the global economy dictates the need for the establishment of new formats of cooperation on environmental issues, taking into account the positive experience of UN member states. Significance of the National Caspian Action Plan of Turkmenistan, developed by Turkmen specialists, was noted. It identifies the main challenges and specific measures aimed at the prevention of pollution by industrial facilities, the conservation of biological diversity of the Caspian Sea, rational use, and reproduction of its biological resources, according to the Turkmen mass media. -02D-
