OSCE Training Seminar for Employees of Press Services
The International Press Centre on Monday started a two-day training workshop on the theme: "The role of effective cooperation between the government press services and journalists to obtain information."
The event was organized by the OSCE and the Press Council of Azerbaijan, with the assistance of State Support for Media.
The head of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov noted that Azerbaijan is one of the most advanced laws for information in Eastern Europe. The law requires no restrictions provide journalists and public information to all citizens according to the urgency of the matter within 24 hours, 7 days and 14 days.
The information, the disclosure of which is restricted, includes only information, which is public, professional, commercial or kept confidential.
The head of the OSCE Office in Baku Koray Targay said that along with the necessary legal framework, it is important to use these instruments. Not only the Foreign Ministry, but also other departments should promptly provide the media information. Largely through the media is communication with the public, and the effectiveness of such cooperation determines the credibility of the government authorities.
The Deputy Head of the socio-political department of the presidential administration, Vugar Aliyev said transparency in government is strengthened. According to him, on the websites of government agencies at present there is 75% of information to be exposed to dissemination.
As for the e-government, today in Azerbaijan there are about 300 state agencies that have 450 kinds of electronic services, he said.
About 20 journalists that participated in the seminar noted the whole progress of the press services, but at the same time pointed out that the state agencies promptly disseminate only the information they need. At the same time, the press cannot get information on important issues.
In turn, members of the press services complained about the incompetence of journalists, who cannot manage their topics or distort comments.
The seminar was attended by employees of the press-service agencies, which are more or less available to journalists. -06C-
