Private TV channels will not earn on campaigning
Baku / 09.01.20 / Turan: Azerbaijan’s private TV channels refused to organize campaigning on a paid basis during the February 9 parliamentary elections.
None of the private television channels contacted the CEC about their intention to place campaign materials for candidates on a paid basis. Only ITV has expressed a desire to distribute campaign materials for a fee, the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan said.
However, according to the law, ITV must devote free airtime to all candidates for deputies.
At the same time, 30 news agencies and websites of nine newspapers and only one TV expressed their willingness to place campaign materials for candidates for a fee.
The election campaign begins on January 17 and will end at 08:00 on February 8 - a day before the start of voting. —06D-
