Prosecutor asks to condemn activist of "Musavat" for seven years
At the trial in the case of Yadigar Sadigov, adviser of the head of "Musavat", held in the Lankaran Regional Court on Monday, prosecutor asked to sentence the accused to seven years in prison.
This is the maximum punishment for Sadigov under Article 221.3 (hooliganism committed with a weapon.) According to lawyer Khalid Bagirov, although the judicial investigation finished on December 4, the prosecutor suggested to the judge to read expert’s conclusion.
This led to protests of the accused and protection, because evidence of the prosecution can not be considered.
The judge read materials of expertise and Sadigov again stated about the political nature of the charges. Next meeting, at which the speech of advocates is expected, was scheduled for January 13.
* Yadigar Sadigov was arrested on June 27 at the complaint of a local resident, Rashid Karimov , who claimed that on June 25 Sadigov beat him in the teahouse in Lankaran.
Bagirov is convinced that the prosecution of the lawyer had been completely fabricated and politically motivated.
According to him, the judicial investigation did not prove Bagirov’s guilt. All the witnesses for the prosecution are related to municipalities and local executive authorities. On the day of the incident they were not in the teahouse, fellow villagers confirm it.
It is noteworthy that the court granted a defense motion to request information from the mobile operators on the location of these individuals at the time of the incident. The "victim" was previously convicted of drug possession.
It is noteworthy that videos of Sadigov on confrontations with the "victims" and “witnesses” were submitted to the court. The investigation motivated it by destruction of records "for technical reasons."
Sadigov is one of the most active opposition politicians in the southern region, and is popular among the population. He was also active in facebook. Sadigov organized the visit of the leader of "Musavat" Isa Gambar to Lankaran, which was foiled by police and local activists of the ruling party.—16D06-

Azerbaijan is positioning itself as a key energy partner for Europe amidst growing challenges in the natural gas market following the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine. The disruption, marking the end of a decade-long transit route, is expected to heighten competition in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market and drive up prices for alternative energy sources.
