Situation in Armenia, Karabakh Remains Uncertain
Baku / 12.11.20 / Turan: Criminal cases have been initiated against the opposition leaders detained during yesterday's rally in Yerevan. According to the Armenian media, there are 10 people on the list and they are accused of organizing riots during martial law and disclosing state secrets. The list includes Gagik Tsarukyan, Garnik Isagulyan, Suren Surenyants, Gegham Manukyan, David Hambardzumyan, Ara Sahakyan, Artur Vanetsyan, Eduard Sharmazanov, Artur Gazinyan and Ishkhan Saghatelyan.
The Armenian authorities have stepped up security measures in Yerevan and dispersed unsanctioned rallies. Since the morning of November 12, the main highways of the city have been blocked, and people arriving from the regions of the country are not allowed into Yerevan. These measures are related to the fact that at 5 pm the opposition has appointed another rally in the center of the capital demanding Pashinyan's resignation.
Meanwhile, confusion is also observed in the ruling team. Thus, Armen Abazyan, appointed the day before as head of the National Security Service, was hospitalized on Wednesday with a diagnosis of heart ischemia.
At the same time, a group of generals from the Ministry of Defense resigned, disagreeing with the leadership's position on the surrender of territories to Azerbaijan.
Almost all political forces condemned Pashinyan's steps to end the war and demand that they be abandoned. The opposition aims to convene an extraordinary session of parliament and at the legislative level to denounce the agreement to end the war in Karabakh.
In turn, the situation in Karabakh is also uncertain. Thus, the eviction of Armenians from Kelbajar began. However, the assistant to the leader of the separatists Vahram Poghosyan suddenly stated that "the issues of territorial concessions and the terms announced in this context have not yet been discussed with the Artsakh authorities." He appealed to the Armenians living in Kelbajar and Lachin, "not to be too hasty and not to take property out of their homes."
In addition, the leader of the separatists Arayik Harutyunyan called the rector of the Dadivank church in Kelbajar and told him that this facility would not be transferred to Azerbaijan and asked him not to leave the area. All of this is a de facto call to disrupt the trilateral agreement on Karabakh.
It should be reminded that the Armenians should leave Kelbajar by November 15, and Lachin by December 1. -02B-
