Tehran again tries to act as a lawyer for Yerevan
Baku/11.08.22/Turan: Some time ago, Russian border guards installed five modular checkpoints on the roads of the Syunik region leading from Meghri to Agarak and Shvanidzor, Alvank, Nrnadzor, the Armenian service of Radio Liberty with reference to the authorities of the city of Meghri.
According to these sources, the border guards of the FSB of Russia stop and check all citizens and vehicles, and only after that they allow their movement. Prior to this, Russian border guards controlled only the border with Iran.
After the news about the installation of new checkpoints in the Border Department of the FSB of Russia in Armenia, it was reported that the checks were related to the need to curb smuggling, illegal migration and drug trafficking. These measures were taken in agreement with the government of Armenia.
According to the FSB of the Russian Federation, a tense situation has recently been created in connection with an increase in the number of drug smuggling from Iran to Armenia. Moreover, cases of border violations by members of extremist and terrorist groups have been recorded.
A number of political forces in Armenia regarded the message about the control of Russian border guards on this road as preparation for the transfer of this route to Azerbaijan within the Zangezur corridor.
However, Iran reacted most emotionally, once again declaring that it "will not allow geopolitical changes in the region." Iranian President Raisi stated this when he called Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan the day before. Apparently, in Tehran they cannot understand that they are not deciding anything here. --02D--
