The absence of surnames in the voter lists is not an obstacle to voting
The CEC chairman, Mazahir Panahov, assured that there are conditions for the holding of democratic elections of the president. All necessary conditions for holding free, transparent and democratic presidential elections have been created in Azerbaijan, he said at a press conference on October 8.
Panahov also admitted that at the debates on Public Television, some candidates “misconducted themselves and insulted their opponents.” However Panahov did not specify exactly who did it. He said that 5,145 million voters in the country will vote on October 9 in 5492 polling stations.
Of them, 5,273 are permanent polling stations. The remaining 219 polling stations have been set up on a temporary basis in the Azerbaijani diplomatic missions abroad , as well as military units located in the territory of the country, the structures of the Caspian Shipping Company , the oil platforms, boarding houses, at the time of Hajj pilgrims , etc.
Web cameras have been installed at 20% of the polling stations in order to ensure the transparency of the voting process.
The head of the Central Election Commission emphasized that all Azerbaijani voters can freely take part in the vote, even if they can not find their names on electoral lists, it is enough to provide documentation of identification.
About 52,000 local and 1,400 international observers will monitor the presidential elections in Azerbaijan. -06D-
