The accused of the attack on the embassy in Azerbaijan has not yet been convicted
Baku/03.10.23/Turan: The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan has denied reports that a death sentence was imposed in Iran on a person who committed an armed attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran on January 27.
Iranian citizen Yasin Huseynzade made an armed attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran on January 27. Entering the embassy building with a machine gun, he killed one embassy security officer and wounded two others. One of the wounded managed to oust the shooter from the building. Baku regarded the incident as a terrorist attack and evacuated the embassy.
On October 2, many media outlets, with reference to the State Television of Azerbaijan, reported that the Supreme Court of Iran handed down the death sentence to Huseynzade.
However, according to the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan, the prosecutor asked for the heaviest punishment against the accused, but there is no verdict yet. The ministry expressed hope that in the near future the court will pass a fair sentence and ensure "the appointment of a well-deserved punishment." ---06B---
