The arrest term of Thale Bagirzade is extended for two months
The Narimanov District Court, Sevil Guliyeva, has extended the detention term of the theologian, Thale Bagirzade, for two months after he was accused of the illegal possession of drugs.
According to his lawyer, Cavad Cavadov, the arrest was extended by the submission of the Prosecutor General.
The lawyer regarded the extension of the arrest unreasonable. He applied for the completion of the preliminary investigation on charges of drug possession, and transference of the case to the court. However, the petition was rejected.
During the trial, Bagirzade delivered a Friday sermon, regarding the arrest of believers on charges of drugs, as "an insult to the people of Azerbaijan." The theologian criticized the head of the Caucasian Muslims Office (CMO), Sheikh Pashazade for not inviting the opposition to Iftar ( the first meal after fast.) A large group of believers came to the court to support Bagirzade. They were shouting "Allahu Akbar!", "Azadlig!".
* Bagirzade was arrested on March 31 under Article 234.1 (illegal possession of drugs.) But the real reason for his arrest are his sermons, placed on the Internet, and in which he sharply criticized the government. –16D06-
