The arrested Thaleh Bagirzade is tortured
Theologian Thaleh Bagirzade, who was arrested on 31 March by the police of Sabunchi, was transferred on April 2 to the Chief Department to Combat Organized Crime. On April 3 a lawyer, Cavad Cavadli, visited him there.
According to the lawyer, during detention Bagirzade subjected to physical pressure. Later in the Sabunchu District Police, his hands were tied to his feet by a sticky tape, and the police began to beat him.
Bagirzade was arrested on charges of possessing illegal drugs. However, the lawyer did not rule out that they may bring new charges. The lawyer said that on the fact of the torture he will write a complaint to the Prosecutor Office.
Turan failed to get comments in the Interior Ministry of Azerbaijan.
A week before the arrest Bagirzade delivered a sermon in a mosque, where he criticized the ruling regime in the country of corruption and suppression of the rights of believers. —16D06-
