The EU has allocated 5.2 million manat to support NGOs in Azerbaijan

Baku/11.03.14/Turan : The delegation of the European Union in Baku on March 11 held a presentation of 15 projects of civil society, the implementation of which started this year with financial support from the EU. The projects are implemented within the framework of the programs: "Development of non-state actors " and "European Institute for Democracy and Human Rights."

In the first direction supported are 7 development projects in rural areas and regions. These projects will serve more than 20 thousand farmers and entrepreneurs in 25 districts. The total amount of the projects is 3 million manat.
According to an employee of the EU Delegation, Parviz Yusifov, the projects will allow the participants to increase revenues by 10-30%.

In addition, there are to be implemented 50 small infrastructure projects, where small business will receive assistance in the amount of 900,000 manats. At the same time, more than 100 new farmers' groups will be created.
According to the representative of the EU mission Maryam Hajiismayilova, within the European Institute for Democracy and Human Rights the EU has allocated 2.2 million manat to support eight projects to improve public awareness, protect property rights , ensure women's rights , and provide election monitoring.

In particular, the Public Association for Assistance to Free Economy is implementing a project for the protection of property rights. The head of the NGO Zohrab Ismail said that the project provided legal assistance to citizens in the protection of property rights in Baku, Ganja , Salyan , Lankaran and Masalli . At the same time it provides support for the rights of citizens in 10 trials.

According to one of them - a collective claim of 31 citizens living in a 9 -storey house at 14 Mushfig Huseynov Street in the settlement Bayil, who challenge the legality of their relocation, the trial has begun.

"In any country, civil society plays an indispensable role in protecting the most vulnerable segments of the population , monitoring of reforms and commitments to human rights. EU is proud that it is the largest foreign donor to civil society in Azerbaijan," said the head of the EU Delegation, Malena Mard .

Total since 2007 the EU has funded more than 60 projects of Azerbaijani civil society with more than $ 12 million manat .
