The Iranian Authorities through Official Channels Confirmed the Arrest of Two Azeri Citizens
Iranian authorities through official channels have confirmed the arrest of two citizens of Azerbaijan - the writer Khalida Khalid and her driver Shamkhal Huseynov.
In response, the Iranian Foreign Ministry in the note to the Azerbaijani side stated that Khalid and Huseynov were arrested "for attempting an illegal activity." It does not specify what are specifical charges against the Azerbaijani citizens. The press service of the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan reported this.
At the same time, the Foreign Ministry said that the Consulate General in Tabriz would provide the arrested with the necessary legal assistance.
Khalid is an employee of the Institute of Literature named after Nizami. She was arrested along with her driver Shamkhal Huseynov and 4 other activists for the rights of Iranian Azerbaijanis at the place of the writer Ohtay Reshidi in Tebriz on April 30. The arrest was carried out by the secret service ETTELAAT.
The Azerbaijani side twice, on 1 and 6 May conveyed a note to clarify the fate of the citizens of Azerbaijan. -06D -
