The National Council of Democratic Forces called for protests against the policy of torture
Baku/11.09.23/Turan: Cases of administrative violence and torture against citizens have become more frequent in Azerbaijan, the statement of the National Council of Democratic Forces of Azerbaijan on Monday. Among the latest cases of torture, the document mentions the names of three religious activists:
- Jeyhun Balashov, who became disabled as a result of electric shock torture and now moves only in a wheelchair.
- Agali Yahyaeva a member of the board of the "Union of Muslims" Movement, who could not stand torture and confessed to crimes that he did not commit.
- Akhund of the village of Khojahasan named Telman, arrested on charges of drug possession, who was forced to confess under threat of sexual violence.
Throughout the reign of the current authorities, administrative violence and torture have been used in Azerbaijan, even against leaders of the political opposition and civil society. Among them: Ali Kerimli, Tofik Yagublu, Ibrahim Ibrahimli, Fuad Gahramanli, Agyl Maharramli, Babek Hasanov, Niyameddin Akhmedov, Alizamin Salaev, Bakhtiar Hajiyev, Mehman Huseynov and many others, a total of 100 people.
Separately, it should be noted the terrible tortures to which those arrested were subjected during the Nardaran and Ganja events, the torture of soldiers in the Terter, as well as police violence against residents of Soyudlu village of Gedabey region.
"These facts show that administrative violence and torture have become state policy in the country," the document says. The use of torture at the level of State bodies shows that the Government is not going to stop using this inhumane, illegal act as a management tool.
"The National Council calls on the international community and the democratic community of the world to take a resolute position against the transformation of torture into state policy in Azerbaijan."
"The National Council declares that it will continue to fight against the anti-democratic, anti-people and anti-human activities of the government of Ilham Aliyev, despite all the difficulties, persecution and pressure it faces.
The National Council calls on the people of Azerbaijan to support him more massively in this struggle," the statement reads. -0-
