Trial in the case of Akif Muradverdiyev
Preparatory hearing in the case of the former manager of Presidential Office, Akif Muradverdiyev, will be held in Khazar District Court on November 15 under the chairmanship of Tarlan Akperova, Turan was told by Muradverdiyev’s lawyer, Rashad Mirmehdizade.
Muradverdiyev was arrested on June 20 this year at the Baku airport while leaving for Moscow. According to investigators, he allegedly tried to take with him golden coins from the time of tsarist Russia, and was arrested on suspicion of smuggling.
Muradverdiyev denied the accusation , saying that the coins were planted.
Muradverdiyev previously had been subjected to criminal prosecution. In October 2005 he was arrested on charges of attempting to overthrow the government. Later, he was sentenced to six years in prison for economic crimes. In January 2008 he was released on parole. --03B06--

Journalist Nargiz Abaslamova, held in Baku's Detention Center No. 1, was subjected to violence by a guard. While passing by the cell of her colleague Sevinj Vagifgizi, Abaslamova tried to greet her, reported on Abzas Media's Facebook page. However, guard Aygul Babaeva forcibly dragged Abaslamova away and deeply scratched the journalist's arm. Abaslamova stated that this is not the first time the mentioned guard has used force and been rude to journalists. A few days ago, Babaeva also used force against Sevinj Vagifgizi.
