U.S. 'Not Surprised' By Russia Hosting Hamas Delegation
Washington D.C./27.10.23/Turan: The United States said on Thursday that it hasn't seen Russia play any productive role in the fight against Hamas, as the State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller put it, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
"The only thing that we’ve seen them do is exercise a veto in the United Nations yesterday on a resolution which we – which achieved majority vote inside the Security Council but was vetoed by Russia and of course by China," Miller told a daily briefing when responding to TURAN's questions about Moscow's current role in the Middle East crisis.
He went on to add, "But in terms of the work that we have been trying to do to keep the region calm, where we have had conversations not just with leaders in the region but the Secretary had a conversation with Wang Yi while he was in the region, we have seen Russia play no productive role at all."
When asked about TURAN's about Russia's hosting a delegation from the militant group Hamas in Moscow, Miller said "I wish I could say I was surprised, but I’m not."
White House was also on Thursday asked about the Hamas delegation visiting Moscow. "This is not a time to be supporting Hamas," National Security Council's John Kirby told reporters. "We'll see what comes of the conversation [in Moscow]."
