What did Lavrov discuss with Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Iran?
Baku/12/23/23/Turan: On December 22, the Foreign Ministers of Russia and Azerbaijan, Sergey Lavrov and Jeyhun Bayramov, had a telephone conversation which "discussed a number of topical issues of bilateral relations and cooperation on the South Caucasus." This is stated in the message of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry also published a short message about the conversation between the Ministers, which says that the Ministers "discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, as well as the current situation in the region."
Worthy of note is that that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Glushko discussed the same issues in Baku on the same day.
The situation in the region was also discussed on December 22 during telephone conversations between the Russian Foreign Minister and the Foreign Ministers of Turkey and Iran.
The content of all these negotiations can be judged by the message of the Russian Foreign Ministry regarding Alexander Glushko's stay in Baku.
"The leading role and special responsibility of the states of the region in maintaining stability and security in the South Caucasus was emphasized."
From this phrase, it can be concluded that Moscow wants to enlist the support of the countries of the region in order to prevent the decisive role of the West in concluding peace between Baku and Yerevan.
It is worth noting that the Armenian Foreign Minister did not participate in the said negotiations. It is Yerevan that stands for the active mediation of the West in reaching a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. -02B-
