Zaur Gurbanli Arrested for 15 Days, Drug Case Being Planted
The detention of a youth activist of NIDA Zaur Gurbanli in the Office for Combating Organized Crime of the Interior Ministry was confirmed on Monday morning.
"This morning a representative of this structure informed me that Zaur is there," the activist's father Araz Gurbanli told Turan.
"However, the caller did not tell me what Zaur is accused of and why he was detained. According to the caller, the investigators will tell this to the family," said Araz Gurbanli.
The activist's lawyer Asabali Mustafayev in turn informed Turan that he was going to meet with the detained activist but did not know the details.
Recall that on Saturday, more than 10 people in civilian clothes detained Zaur Gurbanli at his home and took him to an unknown destination. Later, they brought Zaur to the office of another youth organization, Positive Changes, where officers searched and seized 8,000 pamphlets published by NIDA. The people in civilian clothes questioned the people in the office and took all the publications relating to NIDA.
As for the seized pamphlets, they are devoted to the upcoming presidential elections next year. They depict the profile of Ilham Aliyev, who says: "I will go in 2013, if you become a member of NIDA!"
The activist's comrades believe that the reason for the detention is covered in this appeal. -03B-
