Mehman Aliyev
Media under system crisis
Baku / 25.01.18 / Turan: Azerbaijan's media space is covered by a systemic crisis that covers all areas - economic, professional, ethical, security of journalists, said in an interview with satellite and online TV Günaz TV the director of the Turan news agency, Mehman Aliyev.
In all aspects of the development of the press, you can observe a prolonged progressive deterioration of the situation, which can be regarded as bad, Aliyev said.
The system of self-regulation, progressive development, which was introduced by the new independent press after the collapse of the USSR, was lost, the head of the agency said.
According to Aliyev, the government's constant attempts to take control of the media led to its degradation. Tacit censorship by the state and self-censorship, dictated by fear, led to serious creative losses.
According to Aliyev, about 20 percent of the national audience watches the . Today, public opinion is more influenced by Turkish and Russian media, and a small proportion of other language communities. The information link between the state and society is lost, there is no influence of official propaganda on public opinion.
The constant attempt of the state to stuff the audience with fake news and other information products causes rejection and society is forced to create its own resources and information groups. This tendency Aliyev calls the development of people's journalism, attempts to fight it through persecution, which the government does, will not do anything.
Also unproductive is the blocking of sites by the Ministry of Communications, which has recently taken on a broader character. But the most tragic thing is that the initiator of the blockade is a public journalistic organization - the Press Council. And all this is done in contradiction with the law. Sites are closed without legal justification, without a court decision, said the director of Turan.
The way out of the crisis of freedom of speech, Aliyev sees in the healthy state policy in relation to the media, which should be headed by freedom and political, and economic, and creative. Those who conduct a pernicious policy against the media and lead the press to such a critical situation must be punished, Aliyev said. --0--
