400 More Azerbaijani Citizens Returned from Dagestan
Baku / 18.08.20 / Turan: Today, another group of 400 Azerbaijani citizens arrived from Russia to Azerbaijan across the land border.
They are located in a quarantine zone near the Samur border checkpoint. The returnees themselves told Turan about it.
Crossing the border takes place on Tuesdays. Usually the number of arrivals is 250-260 people.
The increase in the number of the latter group, apparently, is associated with a large influx of Azerbaijani citizens to the border who want to return to their homeland.
The day before, 1,100 Azerbaijani citizens were in the tent camp in and around the border village of Kullar in Dagestan. Over the past week, the number of people wishing to return has increased dramatically.
The tent camp in Kullar was founded in May. On June 15, Azerbaijanis in Kullar held a protest action, demanding to let them go home across the border. During clashes with local police, over 90 people were detained. 10 of them were prosecuted, and the rest received administrative arrests for up to ten days.
Human rights activists criticized the Azerbaijani authorities for creating obstacles for the country's citizens to return to their homeland, which is contrary to a number of international conventions. -06B-

Amid the bustling scenes of this year’s COP29 climate conference, a protest against whaling and deep-sea mining, organized by a group calling itself the FINS Initiative, drew significant attention from delegates and observers. However, questions have arisen about the legitimacy of the group, as an internet search yields little evidence of its existence beyond scattered mentions.

In the last two days, a "news" story appeared on TikTok about a whale spotted on Baku's seaside boulevard. The most "observant" users posted videos, commenting on the size of the animal. Later, other "witnesses" claimed it wasn't a whale, but a shark. Even later, a version emerged suggesting it was a submarine.
