Advisor to PFPA Leader Released from Jail for Day to Attend Wake for His Father
The condemned advisor to the PFPA leader, Mammad Ibrahim, was released from prison for a day today to attend the wake for his deceased father.
According to the lawyer Yalcin Imanov, the man has already left the prison number 16 and went to his father's house in Yevlakh. On September 7 in the afternoon he has to return to the prison.
The oppositionist’s father died on September 3, but the authorities did not release Ibrahim to attend the funeral.
* Ibrahim was arrested on September 30 last year on charges of disorderly conduct (221.1) (the complaint was filed by Mikail Guliyev, former member of PFPA). Subsequently, this article was reclassified to a heavier charge under article 221.2.2, on which Ibrahim faced up to five years in prison. During the trial at first instance all prosecution witnesses confirmed Ibrahim's innocence and non-use of force against those recognized as the victims by the investigation. Ibrahim also denied the charges, saying he was being persecuted for his opposition political activity. Nevertheless, Narimanov Court on March 15 admitted Ibrahim guilty and sentenced him to 3 years in prison. Human rights organizations have recognized him a political prisoner. -16d-
