Alliance Azerbaijan without Political Prisoners Demands to Put End to Repression
The Public Alliance Azerbaijan without Political Prisoners made a statement in connection with the recent arrests and judgments against activists and journalists.
The statement says the new wave of repression has been launched by the authorities in recent years. In particular, the arrest of the adviser to the head of PFPA Mamed Ibrahim, who was imposed trumped-up charges of hooliganism, was “politically ordered’.
It adds to physical pressure in prison on the leader of REAL Ilgar Mamedov and the refusal to carry out the ECHR decision on him.
The statement also expressed outrage with the illegal arrests of two brothers of the editor of Meydan TV Gunel Mevlut. Moreover, parents of Mevlut were "forced" to declare the refusal of their daughter.
The Alliance also condemned the decisions of the courts of appeal to approve the convictions against Ali Gyulaliyev, son of the human rights activist Oktay Gyulalyev and PFPA activist Murad Adilov.
The Alliance calls on the authorities to put an end to such facts, respect the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens and to immediately release the political prisoners. -06D-
