Bertie Vogts finally resigned

Bertie Vogts resigned as head coach of the Azerbaijani national football team. He said this yesterday at a meeting with the president of AFFA Rovnag Abdullayev in Zurich. The meeting was also attended by Secretary General of the Football Association Elkhan Mammadov and the Vice President Elshad Nasirov.

Vogts motivated his resignation with "inability to continue due to lack of physical training of the players."

Abdullayev said that the Vogts team has made some progress, won a record number of points in the qualifiers, and climbed to the 73rd place in the FIFA rankings.

Vogts was invited to continue working with the team, however, the German specialist refused.

Vogts began to lead the team in Azerbaijan in March 2008.

The resignation came after the disastrous start in the qualifying round of Euro-2016.

The Azerbaijani team lost at home to Bulgaria 1: 2, and then with the same score it gave way to Italy in Palermo and suffered a devastating defeat in Croatia – 0:6. -06D-
