Birthday of Political Prisoner Javid Shiraliyev Celebrated

Baku / 11.11.17 / Turan: On November 11 members of families of political prisoners, representatives of civil society and mass media celebrated the birthday of a political prisoner, chief editor of the www.7gun.az website Javid Shiraliyev, who turned 37 years old.

The birthday celebration was organized by the Political Prisoners Defense Center (PPDC), which celebrates the birthdays of political prisoners in solidarity with them and their families.

" Today we celebrate the birthday of a man who is courageous and faithful to ideals, who inspires us with his unshakable faith in justice for the freedom of speech and democracy," the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Khural, member of the PPDC Avaz Zeynally said.

In the speeches of the participants of the birthday party, along with congratulations, there were calls for the release of all political prisoners and the consolidation of the efforts of society to solve this problem.

A double congratulation was received by the mother of the birthday person Zahira Khanum, who in one day with her son turned 60 years old. This courageous woman did much to protect Javid and became the most active member of the community of families of political prisoners.

According to the tradition, the participants of the ceremony tried a cake with caramel reproduction of the portrait of the birthday person. But of course the portrait itself remained untouched as a sign of respect for the birthday person.

Javid Shiraliyev was sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment on May 20, 2015 under Article 182.2.4 (extortion) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. He did not admit his guilt. Shiraliyev wrote a critical article about a den, but the key character of the article unjustifiably accused him of extortion.

He is recognized as a political prisoner and has been included in the PPDC list.
