Court Dismisses Appeal on Activist’s Computer and Phone Confiscation
The Narimanov District Court of Baku rejected the appeal of the lawyer Elchin Sadigov on illegal search and seizure of the computer and telephone in the apartment of his client, NIDA activist Rahim Veliyev.
As Turan was told by the lawyer, the young man was detained on January 16 around 12.00 and taken to the 12th precinct of the Narimanov District Police.
On the same day around 17.00 the investigator of the same police station came to the activist’s place ostensibly in connection with the appeal of the activist’s mother to the service 102 of the Ministry of Internal Affairs about the disappearance of her son. The police officer illegally searched and seized the computer and the phone of the young man.
The lawyer intends to appeal.
Rahim Veliyev was arrested on January 16 in an administrative order for 30 days on charges of not subordinating police. NIDA Movement stated that the real reason for the arrest was his criticism of the government of Azerbaijan on Facebook. -06D--
