Hotel in the place of the Alley of Martyrs?
In the city of Shamakhi (120 km to the west of Baku) they want to transfer the Alley of Martyrs, and to build on its place a hotel, said at a press conference in the IRFS a local journalist, Lachin Mamishev. According to him, the Alley of Martyrs has been closed for five years, and fenced, people can not visit the graves of their relatives. Regional authorities motivate closing of the Alley of Martyrs by landslide threat. Local MP, Elkhan Suleymanov, ignore the appeals of martyrs’ family.
Regional leadership has repeatedly offered the families of martyrs to transfer the remains to another place that caused outrage and protests. Once people have tried to intimidate the police, they decided to publicize the problem.
Mamishev, referring to the deputy head of the regional Agamustafa Vahidova reported that on the site of the Alley of Martyrs hotel will be built, and there is an agreement on the sale of this site to "Gilan Holding."
At the same time, the authorities hesitate to begin construction for fear of popular discontent.
Members of the families of martyrs who came from Shamakhy ask the country's leadership to prevent the transfer of Alley of Martyrs, and punish those who show disrespect to the memory of fallen soldiers.
They also asked journalists to attract public attention to this issue, and invite them to Shamakhy.
The executive branch of Shamakhy told Turan said that allegations on transference of the Alley of Martyrs are completely unfounded.
Improvement works are going on at the territory. Selling of this territory to Gilan Holding is also incorrect. The responsible employee of the Executive power could not answer the question when the improvement works will finish.
The Alley of Martyrs was founded in Shamakhi in 1992. Its area is two hectares, and 24 martyrs were buried there. -05C06-
