Ikram Rahimov Released on Parole from Prison
Baku / 25.12.20 / Turan: The editor of the website Realliq.info Ikram Rahimov was released on December 23.
He himself reported this.
The court released him on parole in connection with serving 2/3 of the prison sentence.
“First of all, I would like to thank all those who supported me during the period of the illegal arrest - friends and colleagues,” Rahimov wrote on his Facebook page.
He believes that the customer of his arrest was Ali Hasanov, a former assistant to the President of Azerbaijan on social and political issues.
"The process of exposing former presidential aide Ali Hasanov and his network - a number of members of the Board of the Press Council has begun and in the near future we will all witness a new struggle together," Rahimov stressed.
Recall that Rahimov was arrested in October 2018 after the publication of an open letter criticizing Ali Hasanov, the then assistant to the head of state.
On June 12, 2018, he was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison. In protest, he started a hunger strike, which he ended on the 30th day - September 5.
On September 18, the Court of Appeal confirmed Rahimov's guilt of extortion through threats, but by applying Article 62 of the Criminal Code (the appointment of a lesser punishment prescribed by law), it reduced the term of imprisonment to 3 years. Rahimov's sentence was condemned by a number of international journalistic organizations. -03D06-
