Ilgar Mammadov Visited by Representatives of ICRC

The representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) visited the REAL movement leader Ilgar Mammadov, the executive secretary of the organization Natig Jafarli told Turan.

According to him, Mammadov called the previous night from the prison and reported on the visit of the ICRC staff. Jafarli also noted that Mammadov confirmed the diagnosis of acute osteochondrosis. The doctor gave advice on the treatment of the disease.

"The doctor said that in the period of such pains, it is more important than drugs to provide the necessary bedding and nutrition in accordance with the diagnosis. However under the current conditions of Mammadov's detention this is impossible," Jafarli said. According to him, drugs can only reduce the pain, but not cure the illness.

* Ilgar Mammadov was arrested on February 4, 2013 on charges of organizing mass riots in the Ismayilli region. He was sentenced to 7 years. The European Court of Human Rights found Mammadov's arrest politically motivated and decided that he should be released. However, the Azerbaijani authorities ignore this demand.  --06C-
