Intelligence Agencies Report Arrest of Foreign Citizen for Espionage
Baku / 10/18/18 / Turan: The State Security Service (SSS) on Thursday spread information about the detention of a foreign citizen engaged in espionage in the territory of Azerbaijan.
The report says that the foreign citizen Bahram Nusrat Oglu Hasanzada on behalf of foreign services was engaged in espionage to the detriment of the national security of Azerbaijan.
"Information about his criminal actions, that he was engaged in espionage to the detriment of the state security of Azerbaijan, the interception of state secrets and the recruitment of Azerbaijani citizens was confirmed," the Security Service said.
The State Security Service reported that as a result of a joint operation conducted with the State Border Service, Hasanzada was detained on the territory of the country while illegally crossing the state border.
The Main Investigation Department of the State Security Service brought him to trial under Articles 276 (espionage) and 318.1 (illegal crossing of the state border) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.
By a court decision in his relation, a preventive measure in the form of arrest was chosen.
"It was established that on the instructions of foreign intelligence services, a foreign citizen Hasanzada Bahram collected information about the military personnel of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, military strategic facilities located in the country, military equipment and ammunition, relations with foreign countries in the military sphere, and other security and defense secrets of Azerbaijan, and recruited citizens of the country with whom he has established long-term relationships."
The investigation is underway.
However, the State Security Service did not name the country whose citizenship Bahram Hasanzada had, and did not say for what country he had been spying. -71D-
