Jamil Hasanli condemns imprisonment of relative of political emigrant in a punishment cell
Baku/07.24.19/Turan: Emin Sagiyev, whom the human rights activists recognize as a political prisoner, said the chairman of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF), Jamil Hasanli.
He believes Sagiyev is subjected to pressure on because of the journalist activity of his brother-in-law, Turkel Azertürk, who broadcasts from Europe to the opposition television channel Turan.tv.
Hasanli condemned the authorities for the persecution of innocent relatives of journalists and activists who are in political emigration.
In turn, the head of the public relations department of the Prison Service, Mehman Sadigov, stated that the prisoners are not placed in the punishment cell immediately. First, a preventive conversation is held with the prisoner, indicating that it is unacceptable to commit a violation of internal regulations. If this does not work, they are placed in a penalty cell, Sadigov said.
Sagiev was arrested in November 2017. Last October, the Baku Serious Crimes Court found him guilty of a large-scale drug trafficking, and imprisoned to seven years.
He denied the charges. According to the convictions of human rights defenders, Sagiyev is persecuted on trumped-up charges of reprisal of journalistic activities of his brother-in-law Türkel Azerturk. -05D06-
