Khadija Ismayilova again is not allowed to leave the country
Baku/10.08.17/Turan: Binagadi district court under the chairmanship of Rashad Aliyev today refused to satisfy the appeal of journalist Khadija Ismaylova to cancel the ban on her departure from the country.
According to Ismayilova, she intended to take part in the event on the journalistic awards in Canada. In particular, she became one of the three finalists of the Allard Prize at British Columbia University. The awarding ceremony is scheduled for September 28 in Vancouver.
Allard's International Prize for Honesty is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional courage and leadership in fighting corruption, in particular by promoting the principles of openness, accountability and the rule of law. The size of the award is C $100,000, and it is awarded every two years.
In addition, every six months, a photo contest is held, within which the ability of the photographer to convey the ideals of the Allard prize is pictured. The winner of the competition receives a cash prize of $1,000 Canadian dollars, and his work will be displayed for six months on the Allard Prize website.
Previously, Ismaylova had already been denied departure from the country under the pretext that a verdict on provisional deprivation of liberty was in force against her.
The journalist appealed this decision and after passing all the judicial instances in Azerbaijan, appealed to the European Court of Human Rights.
Ismayilova was arrested on December 5, 2014 on charges of tax evasion, illegal entrepreneurship and sentenced to 7.5 years imprisonment. She rejected all charges. On May 25, 2016, the Supreme Court softened the sentence to 3.5 years' imprisonment conditionally. -16D-

A fire has erupted at the Experimental and Testing Production of the Scientific Research Institute of SOCAR (the state oil company) in the Surakhani district of Baku, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported. "Thanks to the urgent and necessary measures taken by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the spread of the fire to neighboring areas, including nearby residential buildings, has been prevented," the statement reads.
