Lawyer: Complaint of Prosecutor's Office Absolutely Illegal
Baku / 17.09.18 / Turan: Attorney Elchin Sadigov considers the complaint against him by the Prosecutor General's Office ungrounded and illegal.
Today, the appeal against Sadigov was examined at a meeting of the Disciplinary Committee of the Bar Association.
Recall that Elchin Sadigov was removed from the protection of Yunis Safarov accused of attempting to kill the head of the Ganja Executive Power, Elmar Veliyev. On September 11, Safarov's mother Leila Ismayilova stated this.
The decision to remove Sadigov was taken by the First Deputy Prosecutor General, Rustam Usubov. As a reason, he indicated the "psychological impact" of the lawyer on Safarov, so that he gave "false testimonies" about torture over him. In addition, Usubov appealed to the Bar Association, calling to punish Sadigov.
"The illegality of the appeal of the Prosecutor General's Office against me is absolutely indisputable. Nevertheless, the Disciplinary Commission of the Bar should investigate it, and the Presidium of the Bar should take an appropriate decision," Sadigov told Turan IA, commenting on the results of consideration of his question by the disciplinary commission.
Sadigov met today with the chairman of the Bar Anar Bagirov and with one member of the disciplinary commission. According to him, the materials of the disciplinary proceedings consist only of the resolution of First Deputy Prosecutor General Rustam Usubov about the removal of the lawyer and the application for his punishment by the Bar Association,
"I hope that the Presidium of the Bar Association will demonstrate objectivity and fairness, and stop the proceeding," Sadigov said.
In 2018, against Sadigov, there were already two disciplinary proceedings based on complaints allegedly violating professional ethics. "Since the facts stated in the complaints were not confirmed in the court records, the Bar of lawyers stopped the proceeding on these complaints," Sadigov said.
It was not possible to receive comments in the Prosecutor's Office or the Bar Association. -05D06-
