Member of Ruling Party Mehdi Ibrahimov is on hunger strike for eight days
Baku / 17.08.20 / Turan: A member of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, Mehdi Ibrahimov, is on a hunger strike for the eighth day in a specialized medical facility number 3 of the Penitentiary Service for patients with coronavirus. Turan was informed about this by his brother Turan Ibrahimov. It was not possible to obtain comments from the Penitentiary Service.
On August 14, the office of the Ombudsman reported that their representatives had visited Mehdi Ibrahimov, who expressed dissatisfaction with the course of the investigation in his case.
According to the relatives of Mehdi Ibragimov, he started a hunger strike on August 10.
He was detained after the July 14-15 rally in support of the army and accused of violating the quarantine regime and violating self-isolation, as he is sick with coronavirus. Under article 139-1.1 of the Criminal Code, he faces up to 3 years in prison.
However, there was no medical document obliging Mehdi Ibrahimov to stay at home. He also did not commit any illegal actions during the action.
Relatives believe that the reason for the arrest is Ibrahimov's father, a well-known opposition figure and former political prisoner Mammad Ibrahim. He was detained on July 26 and charged under Art. 186.2.1 (causing damage to another's property), 233 (violation of public order), 315.1 (violence against a police officer) and 278.1 (violent seizure of power) of the Criminal Code. Mammad Ibrahim was arrested for 4 months.
Mehdi Ibrahimov and Mammad Ibrahimov are recognized as political prisoners by human rights activists. -03B06-
