MRI: the arrest of Abdul Abiyev is another suppression of freedom of expression
Media Rights Institute (MRI) strongly condemns the arrest of the activist of social networks, Abdul Abilov, which is already three days illegally detained in the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Interior. He is accused of drug-related crime, but the true reason for Abilov’s arrest is criticism of government officials and individual countries.
Media Rights Institute believes that the drugs were planted Abilov by law enforcement officers during a search in his apartment. During the search they seized from the apartment Abilov’s his laptop.
MRI emphasizes that everyone has the right to criticize the government. Regarding Abilov, his arrest is illegal suppression of freedom of expression.
MRI calls on the authorities to release the activist of social network, immediately investigate the "toss" of drugs to Abilov, and informing the public about the results. -16D04-
