NIDA is concerned about the health of the arrested Elgiz Gahraman
NIDA Civil Movement is concerned about the fate of the activist of the youth organization Elgiz Gahraman. For six days he was kept at the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime Ministry of Internal Affairs, but there is no information from him. On August 12, he was detained by persons in civilian clothes, accused of drug trafficking, and was arrested for four months. Today, a trial was held in his case, but Elgizwas not brought to the court.
"In a letter submitted on its behalf, stated that he agreed with the arrest, and did not want to participate in the trial. However, for six days he is not allowed to meet with a lawyer. All this reinforces the suspicion that he was being tortured, and we are concerned for his health and life," reads the statement. NIDA places the responsibility for the life and health of Gahraman on the country's authorities. Efforts to get a comment in the Interior Ministry are futile.-06D—
