N.Jafaroglu: Working Group should continue its work
The yield of the Council of Europe Joint Working Group (JWG) on human rights in Azerbaijan, an unpleasant fact, however, the structure will continue its work. This was stated by a member of the AWG Turan, a human rights activist Novella Jafaroglu, commenting on the statement of CoE Secretary General Jagland to withdraw from the AWG at the lack of progress in addressing the human rights problems in the country.
Jafaroglu said that human rights activists will try to clarify the reasons for the CE output from the AWG. She believes that through the JWG still be "positive impact" on the fate of political prisoners. "Working Group is a mechanism designed to alleviate the situation of prisoners of salvation unjustifiably arrested. Therefore, we support the continuation of its activity," said Jafaroglu.
* AWG was set up in the first half of the 2000s. in connection with the problem of political prisoners. In 2005, after the liberation of a large part of the political prisoners, the activities of the AWG was suspended.
In 2014, due to a sharp increase in the number of political prisoners in Azerbaijan, the work of the AWG was restored at the suggestion of the Secretary General of the Council Evrope.-05B-
