Ombudsman Urges Ramil Usubov to Find Mehman Huseynovs Identity Card
Baku / 01.05.17 / Turan: Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova appealed to Interior Minister Ramil Usubov with a request to take the necessary measures to ensure identity of the detained blogger Mehman Huseynov.
The lawyer Elchin Sadigov told Azadliq Radio about this, referring to the Ombudsman's office.
The Ombudsman's letter to the Minister of Internal Affairs says that Huseynov's certificate was seized from him by the Sabail District Police Department of Baku in 2012. Despite the numerous appeals of the blogger, his identity was not returned.
The Ombudsman asks Usubov to consider the situation with the identity of the blogger and take appropriate measures.
The Ombudsman's office also took measures to clarify the health status of the convicted blogger. The head of the apparatus Aydin Safikhanli sent a letter to the Main Medical Department of the Ministry of Justice with a request to study the blogger’s health and the need to operate him.
It should be noted that for almost 5 years Mehman Huseynov has lacked an identity card. The lawyer notes that the blogger has health problems, in particular, with veins, and he needs an operation.
On March 3, 2017 Huseynov was sentenced by the court to 2 years imprisonment on charges of libel.
He was kidnapped in the center of the capital on the evening of January 9. The next day it became known that he was kept in the 22nd police station of the Nasimi district and from there he was taken to court. The Nasimi court fined Mehman Huseynov for 200 manat for resistance to the police.
Coming out of the court, the blogger told reporters that he was tortured in the Nasimi police. After that, the chief of the Nasimi district police Musa Musayev filed a lawsuit on libel charges. On this basis, Mehman Huseynov was convicted.-0-
