Owner of the AMAY Shopping Center Abdulla Abdullayev is arrested
The owner of a large shopping center AMAY Abdulla Abdullayev is arrested of fraud, according to General Prosecutor's Office. Abdullayev has been arrested on the case investigated by the Office to Combat Corruption under the General Prosecutor's Office on the basis of materials received from the Fund to Support National Business at the Ministry of Economy and Industry.
Based on primary evidence a lawsuit was filed under the Articles 179.3.2 of the Criminal Code (misappropriation and embezzlement ) and 308.2 (abuse of power.)
The investigation established that Abdullayev, as head of the Supervisory Board of the commercial bank "Birlikbank", abusing the powers, received from the Fund to Support National Business 3,397,000 manat allocated for development of agriculture and other areas, and redirect them to the construction and repair of buildings of AMAY in Khatai district.
In this regard, he was brought to justicem and was arrested.
Abdullayev used to be one of the businessmen most close to ruling elite.
Under the presidency of Heydar Aliyev he controlled one of the largest wholesale commodity markets at the metro station "Ganjlik."
Security staff by Abdullayev even participated in the suppression of opposition protests. However, after Ilham Aliyev became president the market was demolished, and Abdullayev had to build a new shopping center in Khatai district, in a sparsely populated area.
Several years ago he had a lawsuit with the largest holding Azersun, which ended not in Abudllayev’s favor. –06d--

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony.
