Preparing press dossier of Fikret Faramazoglu
A lawsuit against the editor of the site jam.az Fikret Faramazoglu has been fabricated and the trial shows that the charges against him are unfounded, said lawyer Elchin Sadigov at special hearings held Tuesday by the representatives of a number of media and NGOs.
Framazolgu was arrested on June 30, 2016 on charges of taking bribes in the amount of 3.000 manats from the restaurant owner. The fact of receiving the money has not been registered in accordance with the law, that is, without evidence, and only on the basis of a statement of the complainant and some witnesses.
Similar arrests of journalists under the Article 311, 182 of the Criminal Code, which replaced Article 147, 148 on defamation, have become the norm for the authorities. " This is how they punish uncontrollable journalists," said the editor of "Khural" newspaper Avaz Zeynalli, convicted in 2013 on similar charges, which failed in court.
Lawyer Khalid Bagirov, distanced from the profession for the protection of civil society activists and journalists, have a tendency to arrest journalists in recent years. "At least three journalists, including Faramazoglu covering the topic of trafficking and prostitution have been arrested," he said.
Faramazoglu, who faces 10 years in prison, was arrested after publishing the topic of brothels operating under the guise of massage parlors. One of the journalists said that before his arrest Faramazoglu was offered a bribe to close the subject, but he refused.
Director of Turan Information Agency Mehman Aliyev proposed the creation of a press dossier on journalism Faramazoglu, which dates back to the 90s, including its publication, arrest, criminal proceedings, the course of the trial. "It is very important to form an objective picture around the case of the journalist," Aliyev said.
The wife of the editor Faig Nusret reported that the version of the site jam.az resumed work under a new address http://jamaz.info/, where it is possible to read the articles by Faramazoglu and progress of his case. "We are not going to surrender and give up the fight for his release," she said.
As a result of the hearings of the Coordinator of the Public Alliance "Azerbaijan without political prisoners" Oktay Gyulalyev announced the beginning of a press dossier of Fikret Framazoglu and measures for increasing the efficiency of his prtection.-0-
