The status of Azerbaijan as a country of international transit, the revision of the state budget in connection with the growth of the price of oil, and the production of carpets are the leading topics of today's press.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes that Azerbaijan is a country of international transit. In view of the establishment of the Baku office of the historic Silk Road, Azerbaijan has evolved from a regional transit country to an international one. In this regard, the author tells about the achievements of the country in the development of the international transport structure.
The Echo newspaper writes that Azerbaijan will revise the budget for 2018. Due to the fact that the price of oil is raised from 45 to 55 dollars per barrel, the treasury will receive an additional 3 billion manat, which will be directed mainly to repair and construction and infrastructure projects.
The parliament almost every year makes changes in the main economic document of the country, the state budget.
Azerbaijan has already made several decisions to make changes to the budget in connection with the price of "black gold". The last time such a model was proposed in 2013 and 2014, but when prices fell (2015 and 2016), the country faced difficulties - the devaluation of the manat, the decline in GDP, and the crisis affected many industries. There are no guarantees that this time the price of oil will remain high.
The newspaper Novoye Vremya writes about the problems of a company with self-sufficiency. The article says that Azerkhalcha OJSC (a carpet making company) published its report, which shows that the company's assets increased by 3 times in 2017, amounting to 44.5 million manat. Over the past year, carpet shops and enterprises were commissioned in several districts. By the end of 2016, 3.7 million manat of cash was permanently on the balance sheet of the company, and by the end of 2017 it was already 23.4 million manat. This is quite strange, since the company's turnover for the year amounted to only 62 thousand manat. -0---

The closure of Azerbaijan's land borders was discussed during the parliamentary session on November 25. While the government’s decision cites the coronavirus pandemic as the main reason—despite the World Health Organization declaring its end last year—Zahid Oruj, Chair of the Human Rights Committee in the Milli Majlis, pointed to other factors. He stated, "Opening the borders could result in an influx of hundreds of thousands of non-Azerbaijani refugees due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Additionally, in Iran, many are prepared to cross into Azerbaijan to safeguard their lives and assets amid military strikes. Such waves of refugees could lead to humanitarian, social, and cultural clashes that may threaten political stability."
